International Focus: Wigmore Hall London

In this week’s international focus, we will explore one of the world’s most renowned concert halls specialising in chamber and instrumental music, Wigmore Hall.  Having recently celebrated its 118th birthday, Wigmore Hall has been offering music-making of outstanding quality and an array of activities in the broader community.

Discreetly nestled in Central London, the Hall – known for its intimacy, crystalline acoustic and beautiful interior complete with an Arts and Crafts cupola above the stage – has a capacity of 552 seats, but draws in audiences from far and wide through its use of digital media and exciting LIVE programmes.

During this ongoing pandemic, Wigmore Hall has continued to reach out to people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities through its numerous offerings within their Learning Programme.  This programme provides opportunities for creative music-making and engages a broad and diverse audience through innovative creative projects, concerts, workshops and online resources.

One of which is Music for Life ~ its sector-leading programme for people living with dementia, including online creative music workshops and choirs, as well as 1:1 phone calls for those who are unable to access the internet.

Additionally, Wigmore Hall has recently launched a Music at Home resource hub, providing a range of free creative music-making activities, resources and concert live streams for families, teachers and learners.  Through easy-to-access resource packs and activities, young children can learn about unique instruments and even have a go at composing their own song !

As the world tides through this current crisis, we at Chamber Music and Arts Singapore also strive to continuously bring chamber music and chamber arts to you and your family within the safety of your homes and at any time of the day !

Our unique collections of Storyboards, Activities and Canvases offered by our #origins programmes within The Glasshouse are specially created and curated for children and youths to engage meaningfully with music and the arts for personal inner growth.  They will surely be able to keep you company during these long weeks and months of physical distancing ~!

Beyond serving the general public, we too hope to bring quality offerings to communities further afield ~ reaching out to those living within more challenging circumstances, through our #blossoms programmes:

in particular, #blossoms colourful blooms in spring that offers fresh musical-artistic experiences each month, to encourage children and youths in their development of emotion regulation, calming, creativity and self-expression, as well as positive self-talk and reframing.
