The Salon – Chamber Music and Arts Singapore Limited

The Salon

The Salon by CMAS ~ listening redefined is a chamber music initiative taking place over a total of four weeks in every year in January and June, bringing together the most excellent local chamber musicians from diverse backgrounds – our Homegrown Series and Young Musicians – into a cozy community setting. Designed with an open-door concept, this project transforms our venues into welcoming ‘third spaces’, where audiences and participants from all backgrounds can encounter chamber music, and sample, savour, and deepen their appreciation for this art form – through daily access and curated opportunities for easy entry via visual art, poetry, hands-on craft, movement, and other creative expressions.

The Salon addresses Singapore’s social need for more in-person connections in a digital, fragmented world. As individuals and communities grow busier and more dispersed, with technology changing how we interact, this project is an invitation to slow down, share physical space, and connect face-to-face. This is especially vital for youths whom we know loneliness is the highest amongst any age groups [1].

By offering a vibrant, welcoming space for in-person encounters, interaction and engagement with neighbours and residents (who may be strangers to one another) amidst a backdrop of continuous music-making and intentfully designed experiences by CMAS through weekly Sharing Recitals, daily Open Rehearsals (Quiet Sessions), fortnightly Concerts for Children and weekly Evening Concerts;  The Salon allows children, youths, families, seniors, and working adults to meet in an everyday low-stakes manner for LIVE music whilst even able to bring along their daily activities like reading, journaling, studying, working, or crafting.

More than performances, The Salon creates meaningful social bonds, celebrates artistic excellence, and nurtures a sense of belonging and harmony within Singapore’s neighborhoods.
